The all-call phone list that is used to remind members of important events has been updated. The next likely time it will be used is the night before our May meeting, the night of the 22nd. If you have not or do not receive these phone calls then email Bjorn Larson via city email.

ASI Fundraiser

A sincere "thank you" goes to everyone who helped with the Mitchell family fundraiser at ASI. A huge amount of support came from AFD personnel by rounding up raffle prizes and auction items. Skyland Fire Department also provided great bar-b-que for those in attendance. In total $6,100 was raised. As a side note, the Jeep Wrangler raffle will be at the poker run on May 3rd at Mac Kell's.

Saluda Mountain Jamboree Paxten Mitchell Benefit Concert Raises Over $4,000.00

Special thanks to Darren Gillespie and his family for putting such a great event together in less than 10 days. Friday night over 200 people gathered at the Saluda Mountian Jamboree facility for a night of music, fellowship, and fun. All proceeds will go to the Mitchell Family to assist with medical bills, living expenses, and funeral costs. Over $4,000.00 was raised and donations are still pouring in.

Paxten Mitchell Goes to Heaven

It's with sorrow we learn that Paxten passed away this morning at home in Robert and Amy's arms. Many hearts are broken today for our brother and his family. We know that Paxten is painless, healthy and strong now that he is in heaven. We will continue to lift up the Mitchell family in our prayers and our support is constantly available. As funeral arrangements are announced we will post them.

We have received great news, Robert Mitchell is now a member of the City's Sick Bank, so sick leave donations are no longer needed. We have also worked to establish a donations account for Paxten Mitchell at Premier Credit Union, 148 Charlotte Street, Asheville (828-252-2346). Robert and Amy frequently update the Caring Bridge website so be sure and visit for the latest news on Paxten. (Paxten's Website).
Checks shoul be made out to "Paxten Mitchell" and can be mailed to:

Our officers will personally deposit the checks in Paxten's account.

Notice About Camp

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted to begin unscheduled patrols in and around our camp. This has come due to concerns voiced about people trespassing onto our property. Therefore, please call the Sheriff’s Office, 255-5555, if you see any non members on the grounds. They have been asked to ticket anyone who is not supposed to be there. Also, concerns have been voiced over shooting on the property. To reiterate, shooting shall ONLY be allowed in the designated range. You shall lose your camp usage privileges if caught discharging a firearm anywhere except for the range itself. Additionally, a Buncombe County Sheriff's Officer can/will charge you with public endangerment if caught shooting in the direction of a public or residential area.

Windows and Doors now at the Camp!

Special thanks goes out to Shane Valliere, Greg Hendrix, and Bryan Silvers for ordering and installing the windows and doors at the camp. John Norejko has helped in a big way also by placing the rock work around the new gas log fireplace at the camp. If you have not visited the camp lately you should check it out!

Retired District Chief Mike Green Passes Away

It is with great respect and sympathy we learn that retired District Chief Mike Green has passed away. Mike had been sick with cancer for sometime. The AFFA would like to thank those who donated their time to make the camp more enjoyable for everyone. Andy Randalls wired the outlets in the pavilion, and retirees Kenny Dietz, Dan O'Kelley, and Mike Marshall painted the inside. Thank you for helping!
