Fire Station 6  (Fightin' 6) Who's area is historically known as the "wild, wild west" is the home to one of the busiest engine companys in the city. Located at 970 Haywood Road, Engine 6 (2004 Pierce Dash Pumper 700 gal capacity, 1500 gpm pump, 25 gal class A foam tank) covers West Asheville to the city limits.

Because of the expanding limits in their first response district, E-6 is in the process of building a new station more centrally located in their still response area near the I-40/US 19-23 interchange.  Completion time will be sometime in late 2005.

Six responds to a large geographic area and handles a large number of mutual aid responses to several County Fire Departments.  Engine 6’s current quarters is only a short walk down Haywood Road from the  Asheville Fire Department’s last line-of-duty death in 1982.  FF Raymond Flowers was killed in the collapse of the steeple at the West Asheville Baptist Church fire.
