Have you checked your smoke detector lately? Our Fire Fighter's Union has taken an active role to ensure that all of our citizens will have the added protection of smoke detectors in their homes. The smoke detector program is a community program provided free of charge by the sponsoring organizations. Asheville Fire Fighters Association Local 865, Asheville Fire Department, The American Red Cross- Asheville-Mountain Chapter, and the Buncombe County Fire Fighters Association. A smoke detector is provided free of charge to persons that are needy, elderly or handicapped who live in Our City or in Buncombe County.
To receive one of our detectors you may contact the Asheville Fire Marshal's office by calling 828-259-5640 or go by any Asheville Fire Station throughout the city. You will be asked to complete a brief application and you will receive a battery operated detector and instruction on it's installation and maintenance at no charge.
